Care instructions for our mud kitchens
Care Instructions for Tommywood Wooden Mud Kitchens
Even our high-quality outdoor play kitchens and wooden products require regular care to ensure their long-term durability and beauty. With proper care, your Tommywood mud kitchen will provide many years of enjoyment.
Basic Care Instructions for Wooden Mud Kitchens
🧹 Regular Cleaning After Use
We recommend that you clean our outdoor play kitchens after each use, thoroughly removing sand, dirt, and moisture. This prevents deposits and protects the wood from premature aging.
🪚 Annual Wood Care with Sandpaper and Glaze
For optimal protection, we recommend sanding the wooden elements at least once a year with fine sandpaper. Afterward, you should treat the wooden surface with a high-quality wood glaze that is certified according to DIN EN 71.3 (toy safety). Allow the glaze to dry completely before the mud kitchen is used again.
💨 Proper Drying Prevents Discoloration
After playing, you should allow the product to air dry. This is the best way to prevent discoloration caused by moisture, as it allows moisture to evaporate optimally and prevents the wood from becoming permanently saturated.
Long-Term Security and Storage
🏠 Covered Storage When Not in Use
To increase the longevity of your mud kitchen, it should be stored in a covered, well-ventilated place when not in use for extended periods. Important: Clean the product thoroughly beforehand to prevent mold formation and damage.
🔧 Checking Metal Parts and Connections
All metal parts, such as screws and nuts, should be regularly checked for tightness and retightened if necessary. This ensures stability and significantly increases the product's lifespan.
Material Science: Nordic Spruce as Outdoor Wood
The wooden elements of our outdoor play kitchens are made from high-quality Nordic spruce. Due to its natural properties, this wood is very well suited for outdoor use and is particularly resistant to weather influences.
🌿 Natural Wood Changes Are Normal
Important Note: Wood is a natural material and changes under the influence of moisture and sun. After several months outdoors, the wood can:
- ✅ Darken slightly or turn gray (natural patina)
- ✅ Expand in humidity and cold
- ✅ Contract in dry conditions
- ✅ Develop small drying cracks
These natural changes are normal and do not constitute a reason for complaint.
